Flag of the United States of Mars

Used by the southern regions of Mars during the Independence War in 2098, the southern flag was used along side the Republic's flag until 2137, when its use was banned by General Tsao-wu Ling after he took control of the Republic after military coup since the south heavily opposed the take over. During the Great War (2201-2222), the flag reappeared in the south after local military units were moved north to combat the possibility of an Astro Alliance landing. After years of military dictatorship, the south seceded, and formed the United States of Mars, thus causing the start of the Martian Civil War (2218-2222). The Civil War drained much of the Republic as it had to combat both the Astros and its own citizens, thus making grave mistakes further adding to the support of the USM. The Astros and the USM formed an alliance in 2219 and after many years of heavy fighting, the USM was made the official government of the red planet.
The top red bar represents the red planet, while the bottom represents the blood spilt during the Independence War (and later the Civil War, too). The white middle bar represents the hope for peace and unity. The blue bar to the side represents a terraformed Mars. The characters 火星, mean Mars in Chinese, representing its history as a Chinese colony.
