Description

In 1949, the Republic of Kuras-i bacame a communist state. The People's Republic of Kuras-i was declared after the Kurasian Communist Party won control of the National Assembly. During the 50's, Kuras-i saw an economic boom as Soviet and Chinese aid flowed into the islands allowing the nation to quickly rebuild from WWII. In 1956, construction began for the Great Socialist Revolution Hydroelectric Station (now the Centro del Infierno Hydroelectric Station). In 1964 the dam was complete and generates 85% of the energy consumed on Isla Nor. The emblem of the PRK was adopted in 1965 and features the GSR Dam and in the center with the four mountains of Kuras-i in the background (Mt. Infierno, Lucifer, Fang, and Thor). The red star stands for the socialist ideals of the nation, and the cog wheels represents industry. The AK-47 and hoe represent the hopes for a global revolution and the idea that the peasant would play a significant role in that. The corn stalk and the sugar cane represent agriculture. This emblem was in use from 1965 until the US backed July 4th Coup of 1976. The emblem was modified by the military government by changing the red star and cog wheel to a plain yellow star. The AK and hoe were removed, along with the hammer and sickles and socialist mottoes. The red banners were changed to the Independence Flag (the current flag used by Kuras-i). The name of the nation was changed to the Republic of Kuras-i, and the writing system was changed from using a dual system of Cyrillic and Arabic scripts to solely a Latin based one.
