Japan, Reunited, Aftermath Timeline

After the collapsed of communism in Eastern Europe in 1997 and the breakup of the Soviet Union two years later, North Japan panicked. After much debate, a number of reformist in the National People's Diet voted to reunite Japan, completely shocking the hardliners in the Japanese People's Socialist Party. Reluctantly, the leaders of the Japanese People's Socialist Party began negotiations with South Japan to slowly reunite. The plan was a controlled fifteen year program were South Japan would provide the funds for North Japan to bring its infrastructure to Southern standards, to de-mine the Inter-Japanese Border, to slowly demobilize the Japanese People's Army and integrate them into the Japanese Defense Forces, to negotiate on the future of North Japan's roughthly four million nationalized Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Russian citizens and their descendants, and to discuss the future of Russian military bases throughout North Japan. Despite some disputes between the two sides, slowly, but surely the two reunited peacefully in 2015.
